De Oiling, Flavor Applicator & Tilting Hydro

the De-oiling, Flavoring, and Tilting Hydro setup forms the final "finishing" stage of the production line. This combination ensures that snacks are non-greasy, perfectly seasoned, and handled with minimal manual labor.

1. Tilting Hydro (Centrifugal De-Oiler)

After frying, snacks contain 30% to 40% surface oil. The Tilting Hydro (Centrifugal De-Oiler) uses high-speed rotation to "spin off" this excess oil.1

  • Mechanism: A perforated SS 304 basket spins at 700 to 900 RPM. Centrifugal force throws the oil out through the holes into a collection jacket.2
  • The "Tilting" Feature: In older models, workers had to lift heavy baskets manually. The Tilting Model uses a mechanical or pneumatic lever to tilt the entire drum, automatically discharging the de-oiled snacks onto a conveyor or into the flavoring drum.
  • Benefits: Reduces oil consumption by ~15%, extends shelf life (prevents rancidity), and ensures the product is dry enough for the flavor to stick.

2. Flavor Applicator (Seasoning System)3

The Flavor Applicator is a precision machine that applies spices, salt, or liquid slurries to the snacks.4

  • Types:
    • Dry Powder Applicator: Uses a screw-feeder to drop a precise amount of masala onto the snacks.
    • Slurry Sprayer: Uses a pump and nozzles to spray a mixture of oil and spices (essential for Kurkure or Extruded snacks).
  • Control: Usually equipped with a VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) to sync the spice flow with the quantity of snacks passing through.

3. Flavoring Drum (Coating Tumbler)5

This is the rotating cylinder where the actual mixing happens.

  • Design: A long, horizontal drum (usually 5 to 8 feet) with internal "flights" or baffles.
  • Action: As the drum rotates, the internal fins lift and tumble the snacks while the applicator sprays the flavor. This ensures 360-degree coverage without breaking delicate items like potato chips.
  • Discharge: The drum is slightly inclined, so the seasoned product naturally moves toward the exit and into the packaging section.6
